Kenneth Cook. He is an anointed brother in bethel that about 3 years ago got assigned to Writing Correspondance from Bethel Office in Wallkill. There was speculation about him. He is not a rule oriented brother at all. Definitely a people person, a pleasurable brother. Makes people around him feel relaxed an at ease. The 'helper' status may change him. I would really hate to see that happen. But all GB members are cool to be around personally. It's what they discuss in those private rooms that worry me... And like Ray Franz pointed out, good brothers will always be minority regardless.

Is the Governing Body overdue to make new appointments?
by cedars ini'm doing some research for a new blog article on the governing body.
it's in a question-and-answer or "faq" format, and attempts to give simple but well-founded answers to most questions that people could conceivably ask about the governing body.. one thing i noticed when looking at the history of the governing body is that we seem to be in the middle of a lengthy "dry spell" when it comes to making new appointments.. gerrit losch is currently the longest-serving member having been appointed in 1994. however, his appointment came at the end of a 17 year period in which no appointments were made.
this contrasts notably with the remarkable six-year period between 1971 and 1977 when 15 members were added.. since losch's appointment, 4 members were added in 1999 (herd, lett, pierce and splane) and 2 more recently in 2005 (morris and jackson).. the seven year spell since the last appointments were made has seen the deaths of barber, barr, jaracz, shroeder and sydlik - cutting the number of governing body members almost in half.

Do you have an invisible friend who talks to you?
by Glander inthis would be considered a strong indicator of mental illness.
but if it causes you or others no concern it can be quite harmless.. .

I did believe in God, but right now I am defragmenting all my previous beliefs.
Therefore, I am not defending theists, nor atheists, simply deciphering irrelevant arguments. Or trying to at least. But I hate these threads, so I will jump off....

"Evidently" the New Watchtower Propoganda Buzzword is "Clearly"
by LostGeneration inwe have seen hundreds of examples of where the watchtower uses the word "evidently" to make their doctrinal point.

Psychological bullying.
If it's "obvious" and "clear", but you don't see it, there's something wrong with you.

I get the point... I really do... But, with that reasoning, I can't audibly hear my conscience. So it must not be real? I can't hear an email, so that's not real either?
Establishedly, atheists have a lot of good reasonings exposing holes theists can't back up, but this isn't one of them.

For those of you who do not believe in corporal punishment...
by Chemical Emotions inthat is, for those of you who actually think that hitting children is wrong, what types of discipline do you find more effective?
i'm not a parent but when dealing with kids, i've seen that time-outs tend to make kids feel isolated and can really hurt them.
if they're near others and are checked up on frequently, it seems ok. but when they're completely ignored, that is just bad.

My parents were strong people. When something I did made my mother cry, and I'd seen her crying, that was worse than any beating I've ever received. Some children are rotten where they don't care seeing their parents cry. Before I was able to think things through, I just knew I didn't want a spanking. But once I was old enough to reason "I don't want to hurt mommy", I just became sneakier, not necesarily better. So I needed my spankings. And they didn't stop spanking me until I was 13. I was in high school still worried about getting spanked. It didn't hurt, but it was still embarrassing. So I tightened up my act.
But it kept me in line for the earlier years.

I have a very big family. The first few siblings (up until myself) got ferocious ass whoopins. I will admit, we never got injured or seriously hurt, and most of us deserved it. Talking wasn't working. Punishments? Lol. Those were cool and we had to share bedrooms so we would just have blast, even without TV and such. So we got good spankings all the time. I do have a sister though, who didn't deserve them. She made mistakes but she was very good girl. Even JW's called her corny. It messed her up, and I see it this day. We actually cried for her when we were younger and we heard her getting spanked. It was torturous to listen to because she was a good good kid.
Then the younger half of the family were born. And my parents were tired physically I guess, because they NEVER got whooped. And most of them needed it. Time outs, taking away privileges, punishments, every thing that didn't work for us, they got. It wasnt working. But they were bad. I wanted to crack their asses myself a lot.
Either all got spanked or none did. And we all see a difference NOW. The older half are disciplined in the most important parts of life and can function in society. Of the younger half, the ones that did not need corporal punishment are faring pretty good also. The rest we feel bad for.
My point? Depends on individual.
Some kids need it, some don't. Too many parents don't know the difference. The result is eventually emotionally and mentally scarred adults or out of control ones.

To be honest, a successful business is one where people come first. That's what generates business, and keep internal problems to a minimum. So you have to ask yourself, WHO is more important?
A) The people paying for the service and expecting a specific outcome or
B) Your unreliable employees
You do feel a sense of loyalty to the people you work with, which is why you have a dilemma. And you've probably seen people get burned by those whom they worked for and you don't want to be that boss.
But what are you willing to sacrifice? WHO is more important to you in this situation? Can you honestly help motivate and inspire those working for you? Is it worth the time and effort in your case?
The rough part of owning a business...
